The Indian Railways 1st journey began in April 16, 1853. The maiden train set out from Bombay to Thane. The 400 guests travelling in the 14 coaches could scarcely have known what a historic and momentous event they were participating in or how the 33.81 km long journey would change the very face of the Country.

Indian Railways has witnessed the country’s historic passage from the colonialism of the British Raj to the exhilaration of independence. Indian Railways has changed with the changing and emerging times and has been the prime mover of economic change in the Country.

Indian Railways today is the largest transportation system in the world under a single management.

The Indian Railways is carrying approx 50 million people daily from one place to another and this is the largest mode of transportation in our country.


The brief set up of Indian Railways is as under:-

  • The Indian Railways has been divided into 16 Zones which have been coordinated and managed by the Railway Board.
  • The total track for the Indian Railway is about 90,000 kms and having approximately 7,500 stations.
  • The Railway has got Six Production Units as under:-
    1. ICF - Chennai

    2. RCF - Kapurthala, Hussianpur

    3. CLW - Kolkatta

    4. BLW - Varanasi

    5. DMW - Patiala

    6. MCF - Raibarelli
  • The Indian Railways has got their own set up of Research Design and Standards Organisation which is normally known as RDSO, situated at Lucknow – (U.P.). The RDSO provides vital inputs and R&D for its implementation and ensure the most modernized technique of day-to-day basis to ensure the safety of all kind of components used in the coaches, wagons and engines. The Shock Absorber is also covered in the safety component category and the RDSO is only the competent body to register the vendors for its manufacturing.
  • The RDSO after the successful field trial of the components used to first register new vendorsas adevelopmental source and and then after completing the supply of a minimum quantity and after its successful performance, vendor used to get the approved source after a period of two years. The railway used to upgrade the status from development to approved source on the basis of successfulperformance of the product. We are proud to mention that INDIA AUTO INDUSTRIES PVT LTD is enjoying the approved source statussince last 20 years. The RDSO used to renew the licence/registration after every 3 years on the basis of the past performance and audit of the firm.
  • The new face of Indian Railways is truly technologically Savvy Modernization of Signalling Systems based on the foundation of technology, energization of routes, continuous up-gradation of safety and related equipments are all pointers to the success of Indian Railways.

C-8703.Our company could successfully achieve the mileage of more than 7, 00,000k.m during the field trial.
